Frequently Asked Questions
→ How to license an image?
To license an image please click the thumbnail and a new popup window/box will appear with resolution and price details. If a popup doesn't appear then your browser was probably set to block popup windows. You may change this feature in the advanced security settings of your browser.
Please click the desired resolution to continue to the checkout page. If price isn't visible then it's probably an RM (Rights Managed) image. RM images require special rights clearance and artist authorization. In that case please use the "Request quote" button to contact us.
→ How can I download the image I’ve just licensed?
The image(s) are immediately available under the View History/Downloads section and the download process is intuitive. Just follow the instructions on the screen.
Make sure you're logged in properly by checking your username next to the Welcome sign on the left part of the green bar. If you see "Welcome guest" it means you should login by clicking the "Sign in/ Register" button.
Please click the "View History/Downloads" button on the right side of the green bar which will take you to My Downloads page where all your transactions are visible under "select transaction". The transactions are grouped by date and the last transaction is visible immediately. If you want to browse through older transactions, please choose a different transaction in the "select transaction" drop down list.
Click "Download image now" under the image you want to download. This will take you to the "Download image" page.
Click the link that says "Download image now [xxxx KB]" to download the image to your computer. (xxxx stands for the number of Kilobytes).
If you encounter any difficulties please let us know and we'll be glad to guide you through or simply send the images to you as an email attachment.
→ What is the difference between Royalty Free, Rights Managed and Micro Stock images?
Royalty Free (RF)
Royalty Free content (RF) is marked Royalty Free or RF. It is licensed once per end-user, non-exclusively either as single file or in bulk (i.e. Virtual Disc) as the case may be. Most common uses are covered by the RF End User License Agreement (EULA) but some restrictions apply so please check the EULA. You may do so before checkout by clicking "Terms" in the checkout stage. The price is determined by the copyright owner, quality of the digital file and the resolution. This information is visible online.
Rights Managed (RM)
Rights Managed content (RM) is marked Rights Managed or RM. This content is licensed for a specific, designated purpose. The price is calculated based on media (i.e. newspapers, brochure, web, etc.) and exposure (i.e. print run, audience, territory, etc.) and other relevant factors. For an additional fee, RM content may be licensed with some exclusivity making this perfect for users who want to be sure others won’t be using the same content while they use it (i.e. exhibition, campaign, etc). An RM License is specific and any use that isn’t included in the license is prohibited. Once granted, the rights are recorded for your protection. To use RM content after the original license term or in different media or end use you have to apply again so the rights may be cleared and recorded again.
Micro Stock (MS)
Micro Stock content (MS) is licensed for personal or commercial, non-exclusive, non-transferable use. Subject to the terms of our License Agreement, the invoice and the EULA there are two types of licenses that cover MS content. The Standard License is more limited and personal in nature, while the Enriched License opens up more possibilities for commercial use. Please note that if a use is not listed in the MS license chart it means that the use is prohibited unless you apply for and receive written permission and an invoice. Please also read the relevant Remarks column which applies to both Standard and Enriched Licenses.
→ I’m trying to license a RM image but it has no price details. How can I license RM images?
Rights Managed content (RM) marked Rights Managed or RM.
Since it requires research and many factors are involved, it's complicated to license RM online and we need more details so we can clear the rights for you and make sure there are no potential conflicts with other end-users. Please click the thumbnail and use the “Request quote” button to the right of the preview image. After confirming the price we’ll commence the clearance process which usually takes no more than 1 business day. If you don’t see a “Price quote” button then we can’t license this image.
→ I’m unable to use my credit card on your site. Why?
Credit card authorization is handled by 3rd parties such as Worldpay™ and PayPal™. We have no control over their verification process and credit rating. If you encounter difficulties using your credit card on our site please check with your card issuer. Alternatively you may use PayPalTM to purchase online. We also accept e-checks but this shall delay the transaction until the e-check is cleared.
→ Can you send me a comp for evaluation?
We represent professional artists who create imagery for living. We’re therefore bound by agreements that require us to charge a set fee for their work. Unfortunately, sending a comp is a violation of these terms. The preview size image should be sufficient for on-screen layout purposes. You may license the image online. In case the image is defected we'll replace the digital file immediately. If we can’t replace it immediately we’ll cancel the transaction and send you a full refund.
→ I’d like to find out more or get in touch with the photographer/model . Is this possible?
Visualphotos works with thousands of artists and models. We don't have direct contact with all of them since some are represented through agencies. In addition, our contract terms prohibit us from providing such personal details. Therefore, except for legal cases we won’t be able to provide more details other than the ones the artist has provided in his caption or credit information.
→ I’d like to get more information about an image like where it was shot, specific details, etc.
Visualphotos works with thousands of artists and we have over 12 million images online. Therefore it’s impossible to verify the caption accuracy for each photo or to contact the artists with specific queries. If you encounter material caption errors we’ll forward your remarks to the artist or his agency.
→ I saw my images on your web site but I don’t remember providing them to you directly.
Visualphotos is one of the largest stock photo aggregators internationally. We represent artists directly or through representation agreements with stock agencies. If we don't represent your content directly then we've received it through distribution agreements with your stock agency. You must have a valid agreement that requires your agency to distribute your content internationally and we're one of their distribution channels.
A list of current stock agents we work with may be found in this link
We're very sensitive to infringements and protecting artists' copyrights and we'll remove content that's in doubt. If your content is visible but you don’t remember signing up with us, it's usually due to one of the following reasons:
If you don't have a valid agreement with a stock agency, please contact us immediately and your content shall be removed at once.
→ I’m not a professional user but would like to use an image in my homework/presentation
We represent professional artists who create imagery for living. We’re therefore bound by agreements that require us to charge a set fee for their work. Downloading images and using them without a license constitutes a copyright violation. We understand that professional photography may be expensive for consumer purposes. However, we do have many inexpensive images for as little as $2 US per image. These images may be suitable for any purpose. Please click the “Advanced Search” button (upper right corner) and apply the “Price’ filter under “Order By”. This will sort the images by price with the most inexpensive images visible in the first pages.
→ I’m an artist and would like to submit my work for review
We're always looking for good fresh content. Please send us a note through the Contact Us page with a link to your online portfolio. Our editors shall review your portfolio and reply.
